I beg to differ on that one, on account of experience.
I used to use IDM on my vista laptop, and what would happen is that all of the browsers (IE, FF, Chrome) would refuse to detect that the internet connection is on after some time. The only option i had was to reboot.
I never suspected it was IDM and so i searched hard and long, and i used to think it is vista that is unstable. Some websites even laid blame on my firewall and my antivirus software so i replaced them but in vain.
Just recently i came across an article that laid the blame on IDM and explained that the browser integration in IDM is done by installing a LSP (layered service provider) that is known to interfere with the network connectivity. The dll that does this is idmmdc.dll.
After i uninstalled IDM, things are working fine for me.

Well i think you have never use INTERNET DOWNLOAD ACCELERATOR. This one is the best of all in term of speed and the managements of the files. It is the best.
From my opinion internet downloading manager is the best. i have both mass downloader and IDM. i compared both… IDM maintains speed rather than mass downloader….. morever im using a dial up connection… IDM is the best……The tested results are the following.. i Already have all these softwares..

You can set the number of threads you want. By default its 10 you can increase it upto 99
How many threads does it use ? I currently use WELLGET as it breaks the downloads in to 128 parts (I believe it is highly under-rated).
