Hi-Fi or Hi-Tech: Mobile Phone Comparisons

You are in a rural town or a suburb in India. You see a person pull out an iPhone,at first you think, ‘cool’, technology is spreading pretty far. Then if you know the person you ask them to see their phone to see what they have on there. Sadly, their iPhone retains the bare minimum: a camera app, the address book, and maybe a stray game or two. For a phone built on a ‘premise’ of having the greatest, largest app store, apps are not always present in a multitude on the mobiles. So today, will occur a comparision of some of the flagship models of different major companies:

Now for the Review and Analysis Section:

Display and Weights

Samsung Galaxy S II has by far the best display: largest in size and the best contrast ratio. It also has won multiple awards for its displays being the best among mobile.  It is the lightest of the three phones and yet also one of the sturdier models using Gorilla Glass, which Apple claims that it doesn’t use (result: great screen, but susceptible to scratches and smugs).

OS

This is one of those headings in which the decision is completely based on the different users. Both Microsoft and Apple maintain a closed ecosystem in their OS, which they say adds to the layer of security and app quality.Google has an open platform, with a vetting process – apps can be up or down voted by the consumer. In this category I would probably that the Galaxy S II is by far the best open ecosystem, allowing for more fun if you are a tech savy individual and want to do such things as say: boot up with Linux or have more hacks at your finger tips. The 4GS by comparision is the best closed ecosystem:having possibly the largest App Selection, and rising exponentially (Android Market playing catch-up). Lastly, the Lumia 800 is the phone to watch out for, as it is the flagship model for Windows Phone 7 (7.5 Mango). It will likely have some bugs, but  however, you can be sure a lot more innovative features will be present as well as the metro UI giving us a break from the tiled interface of the other two.

CPU

The S II is currently the fastest of the three mobiles. Though some will argue that with the App rating policies of Apple, that the 4GS is the least glitchy and has smooth transitions.

Rear Camera

Though all three mobiles have 8 MP cameras. The 4GS has the best camera till date on a phone.Galaxy S II and Nokia Lumia 800 are almost similar in this category.

Front Camera

The S II has the highest MP camera, but in this case the iPhone is the victor with its polished facetime app, though only usable on a wi-fi network and with other iPhones.

Bluetooth:

Present in all three models, but you are unable to transfer music files on the 4GS.

Conclusion:-

For an Indian ecosystem, where  sharing is huge (from music, to texts, to images) and where the curiosty factor understand the full nature of the OS: the Galaxy SII is currently the best mobile (HIGH-TECH). For those who want a status symbol, the iPhone 4GS with its decent features and a growing App Store, it is the second best (HIGH-FI). The Lumia 800 with its new windows OS and great camera is the 3rd best (Phone to watch for).
